Starting with my early influences and experiences that sparked my interest in STEM, I will discuss how I navigated through various challenges and opportunities in my academic and professional journey. I will also highlight the key research projects I have been involved in and the lessons I have learned along the way. Additionally, I will share my advocacy efforts aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields. Through my story, I hope to inspire others to pursue their passion in STEM and to show that with hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to making a difference, it is possible to achieve great things.

WE HAVE TO SPEAK UP FOR OURSELVES! This talk explores the importance of practicing self-advocacy and how it can positively impact one's life. The three fundamental principles of self-advocacy are highlighted, which include knowing oneself, knowing one's values and needs, and knowing how to get them met. By incorporating these principles into one's life, individuals can develop the skills and confidence needed to advocate for themselves in various situations, such as at work, school, or in personal relationships. Ultimately, practicing self-advocacy can lead to increased self-awareness, personal growth, and a greater sense of empowerment and fulfillment. This talk can also be an in-depth virtual workshop.

For too long, we have had this stereotypical image in our head of who can be and what exactly is a scientist. No longer should those stereotypes stand, for anyone can be in STEM. Let me show you how we can increase the representation of underrepresented groups in STEM and emphasize that THIS IS WHAT A SCIENTIST LOOKS LIKE!

Key Takeaways:

  • Understanding unconscious bias, stereotype threat and imposter syndrome

  • Strategies for counteracting unconscious bias, stereotype threat, and imposter syndrome

  • Ways to create inclusive environments in STEM

  • Reframing your mindset to see and find different examples of role models in STEM

Learn how to create a professional presence on multiple platforms as someone in STEM including tips and tricks on writing for social media, blogs, magazines, etc. with various examples from my own platforms.

Learn some key tools and tips needed to successfully build, adapt, and navigate through a graduate program. You will learn how to build community, deal with the realities of graduate school, and find reliable resources while learning from PhDs who successfully persevered the journey with wisdom to show you how.

Looking for me to be on a panel or moderate one? I can bring my expertise, know-how, thoughts, opinions and communication skills to liven up any panel discussion.
