+ Where is Dr. Korie From?

Everywhere but nowhere. I grew up in a military family, so we moved A LOT. It is hard to nail down a specific place I am from when I move every 3 years or so.

+ How did Dr. Korie get into biomedical engineering?

I got into biomedical engineering when I started working for a biomedical device company called CryoLife, Inc. in Kennesaw, GA. At this company, I worked on a dialysis graft biomedical device that inspired me to pursue biomedical engineering for graduate school.

+ Did Dr. Korie go straight into my PhD program after undergrad?

I did not go straight into my PhD program after undergrad. I initially wanted to attend medical school, so I took a gap year to work and study for the MCAT. I then landed my job at the biomedical device company and then decided to apply for graduate school programs. In total, I worked two years before starting my PhD program.

+ What motivated Dr. Korie to pursue biomedical engineering?

I had a few experiences in undergrad and through volunteering that motivated me to pursue biomedical engineering. I was most influenced by being in the field, manufacturing a biomedical device that had immediate translation and application in humans. This translational aspect allowed me to see the applications of biomedical engineering and how impactful combining engineering principles to address medical problems is.

+ What is Dr. Korie’s current position?

I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan in the Department of Chemical Engineering under Prof. Lola Eniola-Adefeso.

+ Does Dr. Korie offer mentoring services?

Yes! I have been reviewing essays and resumes since the beginning of my graduate studies and still do today.

+ How do I work with Dr. Korie for a speaking engagement?

You can start by filling out the form here. I have skills in curating workshops, science communication, personal branding, content creation, moderating, and keynotes. I can tailor topics and/or workshops that meet client needs along with my expertise.

+ How far in advance do speaking requests have to be submitted?

I prefer 1 month in advance but welcome inquiries at least 1 week in advance.

+ Does Dr. Korie have a speaking fee?

Because speaking is a service, I do have a standard fee. However, I do my best to accommodate every budget that aligns with my mission and values. Additionally, I limit my pro bono engagements in order to protect my time and effort. Please inquire here.
